Diversity Equity Inclusion
Through the years, we've realized that there are far more burned-out people than satisfied ones like Eddi mentioned in the PEP article. Of course, everyone has hopes and aspirations, but it's rare for someone to feel fulfilled by their job or career. The world of work is changing. From how we communicate to new technologies and the marks left by a global pandemic, people don't just want a job anymore. Instead, they're looking for a job that makes them feel accomplished. People are looking for a company where they feel valued.
Who has never overheard two employees talking about how they didn't feel like they fit in at the company and felt their opinions were being ignored and undervalued? This situation is widespread. We spend so many hours working that a hostile work-life experience leads to a wrong attitude, lack of communication, and an impact on performance. It's easy to see why companies must provide a positive environment and experience to value their employees. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) are key components of a successful organization. DEI is designed to create an environment where we can continue to develop and advance our workforce while providing a positive experience for every employee.
Diversity refers to differences among individuals, including race, ethnicity, gender, age, etc. Bringing together people from different backgrounds makes workplaces more creative and innovative.
Equity means ensuring everyone has equal access to opportunities and resources regardless of background.
Inclusion is about making your workplace a place where everyone feels welcome, valued, and respected. Inclusion can be pictured as walking through the door with the feeling of belonging to something and being valued for your contributions.
Let's face it, it isn't always easy to know when an employee isn't feeling well, and sometimes the HR manager is the last person to find out. The truth is, behind every smile is someone who might not feel well or satisfied in their position. Unfortunately, many people are reluctant to share their thoughts and feelings as they fear they will be ignored.
DEI is key to creating a successful workplace where everyone can thrive professionally and personally. Achieving DEI requires a holistic approach. Creating a diverse, equitable workplace is more than hiring people from different backgrounds or creating policies promoting equity. It's also about creating collaboration and communication opportunities and fostering a sense of belonging.
People management tools like Correlify can be essential in helping companies achieve their goals and improve DEI. For example, Correlify can track the diversity of its workforce by collecting information on employee demographics to identify areas where it is underrepresented and develop strategies to improve diversity. In addition, we can track employee turnover and engagement rates, which can help you determine whether your employees feel valued and encourage collaboration and communication.
